This morning we walked the walls of Rothenburg. That was a "must do" before we left town. Very cool!
These are the big city walls that surround the town to prevent an enemy from attacking. You can walk the walls around the whole city...very cool!
I always love to note the differences I see in other places. It is fasinating to see life in different cultures.
Maybe in the states we have this and I've never seen it, but here our rental cars and Karsten's car all stop the engine when you take the car out of gear, then, it starts up again when you put it back into gear. It does this automatically.
We noticed a postal worker on a bike delivering mail, and in Paris they delivered pizza on the back of a small motorcycle.
On the highway, most of the big rigs have soft sides to them, like cloth or plastic. You can see the sides blowing as they move.
Certain parts of the highway have different speed limits for different lanes. They are posted above the lane.
I also don't like the autobahn! It is too fast! Kind of scary to drive it, even if we aren't that fast. Cars come flying by! That is just normal for them.
We finally saw one pick up truck, the only one so far. Lots of campers towed by cars. Even a horse trailer!
Just stopped for gas on the autobahn. You have to pay to use the toilets, as in most places, about $1.00, but what a cool bathroom! You flush with a swipe of your hand, then the toilet seat turned and was cleaned. Then you swipe for water, soap, and paper towels just like home, but you can also choose hand sanitizer by putting you hand into a box on the wall and you get a fine mist spray over your hand.
Most of the double beds are actually two beds in one bed frame. I do love the single duvets for each person and no top sheet - it feels alpine, and cozy, plus I don't have to steal Monte's, I have my own!
After a very long drive through the Austrian alps we arrived in Dachstein, Austria. Some of the pictures below are during the drive.
We had rain most of the way so we missed a lot of great views. But, the rain stopped when we finally arrived to see the view out our window.
A very beautiful area! Paige says the song "Edelweiss " from the sound of music is stuck in her head!
