This is Mary and Peter, our Brits.
Our B & B! We love that we are across the street from a neighborhood church and listen to the church bells. The population is 98 for this village.
Today we drove to Auxerre. It looked like a nice small town on a river. I had heard they have a nice cathedral and clock tower. At first we thought this was the town cathedral. Then we noticed that there was a much larger one. There are three or four in town that are quite big.
This is the crypt under the cathedral in Auxerre. It was beautiful!
The town clock tower.
I'm not exactly sure how old these towns are but we have heard they range from 1120- 1700's.
We drive for miles surrounded by farms then come to small villages.
We also went to Chablis. Only wine made from the vineyards in and around Chablis can be called Chablis. Paige and I were hoping to do some wine tasting, but it seems she is back on a migraine cycle again so she didn't feel well yesterday or today. She has also messed up her foot again, this time her ankle, so she isn't walking much. Good thing for that wheelchair!
In the afternoon we drove to Tonnere. There is a Roman spring called Fossa Dionne. It means water from God. Women did their laundry here and built fires around the spring it dry their clothes.
We stayed mostly on country roads but we did have to get on a highway once, here is us paying our toll. Only problem, we didn't put it in the right slot! A voice came on an intercom telling us we needed to pay, at least that is what we think she said.
Most cars around here have side mirrors that fold in, and everyone folds them in because the streets are so narrow and driving by parked cars get tight. We have noticed a lot of French people wear shirts with English writing, like Red Bull, Los Angeles, many names of cities in the US.
They eat butter on their sandwiches with meat.
People kiss and smooch on the street.
At a grocery store today ( we bought shampoo and toothpaste) we noticed no one used bags. One family came out with their whole cart full of grocery items. Then they got to their car and pulled bags out of the truck and bagged the groceries at their trunk.
Luckily, with the no smoking in restaurants, smoke has not been an issue for us. But, everyone smokes in France !
Dinner is served! Sounds like this is a slow time of year for travel - I know, can you believe it? So we again had only one other guest, just a single French man who is on a business trip. We had a ball talking to him tonight. His English is fairly good so we were able to have a conversation and lots of laughs.
I love how the set the table. Paige and I feel like royalty.
