Our stop along the way was at Montazuma Castle. It was an amazing cliff dwelling from 1100-1425 AD.
Then we were back on the road to Page. As we drove we started getting text messages warning of sever thunderstorms and flash flooding. As each one came in it made me a bit nervous as we don't know the area and what we were in for. The low dark clouds loomed, then rain. As we started driving up the canyon all cars came to a stop, and then a crawl...snow covered the highway. As we drove up, up, up, hoping to not slide down, down, down, we saw boulders in the roadway that had rolled down the cliffs. Slippery, sliding and rocks on cliff steep roads, not my idea of adventure! But, we made it through! Thank God!
After 5 hours we arrived at our wonderful motel/apartment. A nice clean two bedroom with a kitchen...no cooking here, just coffee.
We checked in and had some hometown American Style BBQ. That's when we realized that English was only spoken maybe 50% of the time, or less! We have met many Germans, and people from Russia, China, Netherlands, France, Spain. At dinner we didn't hear English at all, other than our servers. That was super fun for us!
